Abstract

This editorial analyzes scientific production in Angola in the 21st century, highlighting structural challenges and emerging opportunities in the context of higher education. It emphasizes the gradual growth of the international visibility of Angolan research, still limited by constraints such as insufficient funding, institutional weaknesses, and a reduced research culture. The need for greater indexing and internationalization of national scientific journals is also discussed. In this scenario, open access, especially in the diamond model, emerges as a strategy to democratize knowledge and broaden scientific impact. Emerging academic journals are presented as key players in the validation, dissemination, and strengthening of scientific production. Okulonga positions itself as a multidisciplinary space committed to rigor, ethics, and editorial quality, promoting scientific dialogue and the integration between research, teaching, and outreach. It concludes that strengthening the Angolan scientific system requires collective effort and articulation between science, innovation, and social development.
